In 1972 Yohji’s started Y’s, his first women’s ready to wear line. Many of the original Y’s pieces were fairly androgynous in design. Indeed, you would be forgiven for mistaking some for menswear.

The same goes for this jacket. Its simple cut and wider fit make her suitable for both men and women. 

Her basic and straight forward design is countered with a particular detail at the waist level: a belt, from the same fabric, is inserted in the jacket, it goes through the lining in the back only to pop out in the front where it is attached on both sides with two buttons.

This ingenuous little detail creates a subtle rippled effect in the back, when the belt is tightened, allowing for a more fitted silhouette to her otherwise very straight cut.

With two large side pockets, she closes in the front with a single row of buttons.
