Jil Sander FW 2006 killer black laced up wedge-heel boots
For his debut collection at Jil Sander, Raf Simons wanted to make a statement.
Respecting the minimalism and intellectualism upon which the German fashion house built its reputation, which by the late 90's had veered towards criticism of the brand becoming to monastic, Raf Simons knew he needed to add an edge and some sexiness to the brand.
And he definitely did.
On the runway, the models all walked in these 12 cm high wedge heel boots in both leather and laqué leather variations, sharply contrasting the typical boyish-cut tailored pantsuits and boxy jackets archetypal of the brand.
By adding more femininity and perhaps even a touch of dangerousness, Raf Simons seems to be telling us that we don't always need to be dressed in a masculine way in order to feel powerful.
These boots and the person wearing them are definitely not to be messed with.
Laced up until the calves, they have a very practical zip closure on the side of the boot, so you won't arrive late to your meeting when putting them on.
