Gorgeous sarong by Dries van Noten from around the 2000's in silk and cotton with a Palestinian keffiyeh inspired embroidery.
The keffiyeh was traditionally worn by bedouins to protect themselves from the sun, but overtime has become a symbol of Palestinian resistance and solidarity with the Palestinian people.
The patterns on the Palestinian keffiyeh symbolize various themes:
- Olive leaves: Strength, resilience, perseverance.
- Fishnet: Connection between Palestinian sailors and the Mediterranean Sea.
- Bold lines: Trade routes going through Palestine including the Silk Road.
The sarong can be worn as a scarf or a skirt, a dress, or a top.
It is finished with a row of white and golden tassels, whose strings also serve to attached it in different ways.
100% of the proceedings of the sale of this piece will go to a Palestinian NGO.
Measurements: 96 x 126 cm
