Thierry Mugler came to his career in fashion design via dance and photography. He began designing clothes at 24 for a Parisian boutique, Gudule. After that he started doing freelance work for a variety of large ready-to-wear houses. His first collection debuted in 1973. Mugler became an internationally recognized designer during the 1980s and the 1990s. In George Michael’s music video of his single Too Funky, directed by Mugler, you see the brands identity. His over-the-top fashion shows, that embodied worlds of fantasy and theatrical elements, are perhaps Mugler’s greatest fashion legacy next to his fetishistics designs. He retired in 2003.
