Rifat Ozbek is a Turkish-born fashion designer. He moved to London in the 1970s where he studied architecture at Saint Martin’s School of Art. He established his own company in 1984. He created a bridge between Western silhouettes and Eastern decorative elements. His use of embroidery, tassels and vivid colours like turquoise or fuchsia were at odds in 1980s power dressing but received a lot of attention. Ozbek is inspired by culture and subculture which he reflects on in his designs.
