Issey Miyake (1938) is a Japanese fashion designer. Miyake rediscovered the rich craft practice and aesthetic of Japan. His voluminous, abstract garments embody sensuality without restricting the body to the occidental standard of sex appeal. Issey Miyake found the perfect balance in Eastern and Western traditions in a time where the two were constantly being divided and categorised. His work is influenced by artist Isamu Noguchi and inspired by the use of geometric calculations of fashion designer Madeleine Vionnet.
